ABOUT ME

The word disability is defined as: a physical or mental condition that limits a person's
movements, senses, or activities. I gained a greater understanding of the word disability when my
Mom’s sister, Nina, came to San Diego to live with my family. Nina was diagnosed with
schizophrenia and could not provide for herself. My Mom became Nina’s sole caretaker. After
understanding the stigma associated with schizophrenia, I wanted to continue to be an advocate for
Nina and others with disabilities - whether associated with illnesses or circumstances. My Mom and
Nina taught me to be a leading voice and supporter for the disabled community. My passion for
serving marginalized and disabled individuals remains a driving force in my education, internships
and social initiatives in D.C.
